Why this podcast?

We created Under the Moontower to invite unique Austinites to share their stories, and to appreciate, connect, & expose the underpinnings of Austin culture. We love a ‘top 10’ list, but many of those lists are saturated and influenced.

This all started with a sense of wonder about the people and places around town that we knew less about, yet are just as rich & vibrant to their communities. We found ourselves asking: How do we preserve our enticing cultural qualities, and evolve as the city rapidly grows? How is change impacting our most treasured institutions?

In under 30 min, we hope our listeners will be taken on authentic, insightful, and inclusive journeys to understand cherished local stories, interesting makers, and various segments of the ATX community. We believe wonder can be accessible anywhere!

What does the name mean?

Moontowers were a turn-of-the-century technology, created to cast light on our city. We love the name as it correlates to our podcast. We strive to shed light on Austin too, by sharing local stories. Hopefully, we can all see one another a bit clearer!

Meet the Hosts

Under the Moontower is hosted by Carrie Maher and Anne Harrington, two women pretending to be podcasters, with a passion for travel and culture.  Collectively, we’ve lived in six countries and six states, and at the heart of each exploration or uprooting we’ve experienced, is a curiosity about the local identity of a place.

If you live in Austin with a desire to travel in your own backyard, join us.  If you are visiting but want to experience a deeper dive into Austin culture, have a listen.  And should you have a special Austin story or person in mind, please share with us at underthemoontower@gmail.com
